Stand By For Action! (DVD)

"Stand By For Action!" were the words that heralded the opening theme of the dynamic 'Stingray' television series, but they may as well have been affixed to the front of any production Gerry Anderson worked on; such was the producer's reputation for turning out thrilling adventure serials in which daring heroes raced against impossible odds in over to save the day.

During the 1960s and alongside his wife and creative partner Sylvia Anderson, he created a puppet dynasty – a collective of creatives housed in a series of studios that produced lasting hits like 'Supercar', 'Fireball XL5', 'Thunderbirds', 'Captain Scarlet' and 'Joe 90'. Then, moving on from the innovative "Supermarionation" technique he helped to create, further hits such as 'UFO', 'Space: 1999', 'Terrahawks', 'New Captain Scarlet' and more followed.

'Stand By For Action' is a two-part documentary originally briefly broadcast on satellite television in 2007 and sees Gerry Anderson tell his story in his own words from an extensive interview recorded towards the end of his working life, supplemented by the recollections of colleagues from across his long career – including puppeteers, voice artists, directors and more.
